The policemen involved in a viral video that showed three police officers beating and threatening to shoot a young man, identified as Justice Obase have been paraded.
On Sunday, January 4, 2020, three police officers were captured on video handing beatings and threats of death to one Justice Obase for refusing to unlock his phone.
The Enugu Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ahed Abdurahman revealed that a panel of inquiry has been set up to investigate the conduct of the men and their report would be used in the orderly room trial of the suspects.
Abdurahman said the content of the video was a cause of disturbance to him. When he spoke to the press, he said:
“After the panel’s three days’ work, we will look into the panel’s findings and recommendation. Then, they will definitely face orderly room trial and after all these we know what level of punishment will be meted on them.
“The members of the public should know that the Nigeria Police under the present IG cannot condone and shield such uncivilized characters.
“Nigerians should know that the negative action of the erring personnel is unprofessional and does not in any way reflect the image and attitude of the Nigeria Police. We are here to police with human face and some level of decorum and civility.”
Also, findings revealed that the officers involved were two Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) and a police constable.
