On the 15th of March, 2020, a massive fire rocked Lagos State when a pipeline exploded in Abule Ado, killing 23 people, including the principal of a school – Bethlehem Girls College’s Rev. Sister Henrietta Alokha, OYOGist.com reports.
Five months later, a BBC Africa Eye investigation into the inferno reveals what really caused the massive explosion that affected an area larger than the Beirut explosion.
The real cause of the explosion is what people have always feared, that NNPC was negligent and put Lagosians at risk.
The NNPC had put the blame of the cause of the explosion on gas cylinders assembled at a nearby NPG plant near one of its pipelines.
BBC Africa Eye’s investigation revealed that this is not the truth. In BBC’s words, NNPC’s “explanation for the cause of the blast, that decimated over 100,000 square metres of the city, is wrong.”
