The President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has tested positive for coronavirus after taking a test on Monday, 6th of July, 2020, OYOGist.com has gathered.
Bolsonaro had developed symptoms of the virus, including a high temperature, making the need for a test necessary. He has on several occassions played down the seriousness of the virus, often referring to it as “a little flu”.
Bolsonaro, 65, has been seen in public flouting the coronavirus social distancing guidelines.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, the President said “it came back positive. There’s no reason for fear. That’s life. Life goes on. I thank God for my life and the role I’ve been given to decide the future of this great nation that is called Brazil.”
Brazil’s President says he would not be affected by the virus, saying that if a knife stab couldn’t take him down, then he’ll beat a “little flu.”
In Brazil, the number of confirmed cases have continued to rise. Even COVID-19 related deaths in Brazil is on the rise, with numbers only trailing that of the United States of America, the current global epicenter of the viral infection.
The current deaths recorded are over 65,000 while confirmed cases have crossed 1.6 million.
