Atlanta is experiencing massive protest as the APD has killed a black man who slept in a parked car. Rayshard Brooks, 27, had slept in a car parked at the front of a store which gives other customers inconveniences to make their way around the store.
The APD (Atlanta police department) was called in, they arrived, met and gave Rayshard a field sobriety test which he failed. He went angry and had scuffles with the police. The police eventually got him badly with several shots at the back which led to his death.
Atlanta police Chief Erika Shields, who had served for 20 years, resigned after receiving the report and watching the video from the store where the killing took place. The mayor of Atlanta had the officer who shot Rayshard Brooks fired and called in GBI (Georgia bureau investigation) for proper dissection of the footage received from the scene.
Mayor Keisha lance Bottoms said Erika resigned from office because of her desire that Atlanta be a model of what meaningful reform should look like across this country. Says Chief Shields has offered to immediately step aside as Police Chief so that the city may move forward with urgency and rebuild the trust so desperately needed throughout our communities.
Atlanta is getting high concentrated unrest in the area of the killing and protesters have vandalized a lot of cars and properties beside the area. The APD have tried containing the area but the protest becomes more bigger and rowdy.
The incident that reportedly happened Friday night was recorded by the police that the victim had resisted arrest. The APD says he took their taser and tried to shoot at them. The APD had replayed what went on in Minneapolis back in Atlanta and the unrest was not blinking to settle.
