Lafia Hospital, one of the private hospitals in Apata, Ibadan that was closed after attending to a COVID-19 patient that died at the UCH, is now back in operation, OYOGist.com has learned.
Lafia Hospital had exposure to a COVID-19 patient who had earlier visited 3 other hospitals between April 20th and April 21st, 2020 which warranted the facility to be closed.
It wasn’t initially clear who ordered the closure, but the management of the clinic maintains that they voluntarily closed their building to observe mandatory NCDC procedures after the exposure.
According to press release sent to OYOGist.com by the management of Lafia Hospital, all the members of staff and employees of the clinic has tested negative to COVID-19.
“I am happy to inform us all that employees of the hospital have been screened for COVID-19 and the results came back negative,” Kayode Sule, said in a statement.
The hospital disclosed that the facility would be reopened on Monday the 11th of May, 2020 after the 14-days “quarantine period ended” on Friday, 8th of May, 2020.
The management, however, revealed that social distancing measures would be followed at the facility going forward, which includes putting up a “waiting area with chairs to maintain the mandatory social distancing” among other measures.

Dear clients and visitors,
Sequel to the closure of our facility to the public on 24th April 2020 as a result of exposure to a COVID 19 patient between 20th – 21st April 2020, the facility observed a quarantine period of 14 days in accordance with NCDC guidelines.
The facility was decontaminated on Saturday 25th of April 2020.
I am happy to inform us all that employees of the hospital have been screened for COVID-19 and the results came back negative.
The quarantine period ended on Friday 8th may 2020 and the facility will reopen on Monday the 11th of May 2020 by 9:00 am
Please note the following procedures in accordance with NCDC guidelines:-
- Erection of a waiting area with chairs placed to maintain the mandatory social distancing and for triage purposes
- A strict ‘ NO FACE MASKS, NO ENTRY RULES ‘ shall be applied
- Other necessary NCDC guidelines such as infrared temperature check, hand washing cubicle, sanitizers and disinfecting the feet will be provided at the entrance
