The Governor of Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde, upon visiting the site of the fire incident at the popular Oyo Town market, Oja Akesan, sympathized with the victims of the incident.
During an assessment tour of the ruins of the market, the Governor expressed his sympathies for the people and told them that he takes responsibility for the failure of the fire service to contain the fire.
“I commiserated with traders who lost goods in the fire and told them that I am taking full responsibility for the failure of the fire service to contain the fire,” the Governor shared on his Instagram page.
The people pleaded to the Governor to assist the market people who have lost their sources of livelihood due to the fire accident.
“Our administration will make things right,” Governor Seyi Makinde said.
He also assured the victims of the fire incident that his administration will rebuild a new modern market as soon as possible.
He also revealed that the Caretaker Chairman of Oyo East LGA has collected a list of all the traders that were affected by the Akesan market fire incident which will be submitted to the governor’s office to allow the government compensate traders who lost their wares to the fire.
“The Caretaker Chairman of Oyo East LGA has a list of all traders in the market which he will give to us to enable us support the traders who lost goods in the fire,” the Governor said.
