Ikeja Special Offences Court has adjourned the trial of Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, aka Baba Ijesha charged with alleged defilement until September 27 Oyogist.com reports.
It was gathered that the trial which was scheduled to continue on Wednesday did not hold due to the absence of the presiding judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, who is currently attending a Judges Retreat alongside other members of the Lagos State Judiciary.
The new trial date has been communicated to all the parties to the suit by the registrars at her court.
Nollywood actor, Olarenwaju Omiyinka, popularly called Baba Ijesha, was charged on six-count charges of sexual assault by penetration, indecent treatment of a child, and sexual assault, which contravene sections 259, 135, and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011, as well as 135, 263, and 262 Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
It is believed that Omiyinka is denying all charges, with his lawyers defending him against the case brought against him. The prosecution led by Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi, the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has so far presented two witnesses for the prosecution.
The first prosecution witness was a popular actress and comedienne, Ms Damilola Adekoya alias Princess who is the foster mother of the minor (name withheld) while the second prosecution witness is the minor. Cases such as these are often difficult to prove one way or another, usually due to lack of evidence and/or lack of witnesses.
The two prosecution witnesses testified against the embattled actor at the last court proceedings held on July 27. The case continues…
