YouTube has announced that it’ll temporarily suspend ‘any’ channels for 90 days if they post ‘new videos with false claims in violation’ of their policies. Channels are going to be banned permanently after three strikes within the same period.
The implementation of the strike system from YouTube comes as President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts were locked until a minimum of January 20th after his supporters stormed the US Capitol in Washington D.C. on Wednesday.
Due to the disturbing events that transpired yesterday, and as long as the election results have now been certified, starting today any channels posting new videos with false claims in violation of our policies will now receive a strike,’ Youtube said during a statement they shared to Twitter.

Over the last month, we’ve removed thousands of videos which spread misinformation claiming widespread voter fraud changed the results of the 2020 election, including several videos President Trump posted to his channel.’
The release states that there had been an initial grace period mentioned during a December update, set for Inauguration Day .
‘Channels that receive a strike are temporarily suspended from posting or live streaming,’ the discharge continues. ‘Channels that receive three strikes within the same 90-day period are going to be permanently faraway from YouTube. We apply our policies and penalties consistently, no matter who uploads it.’

In a unprecedented blog post Thursday, Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg accused Trump of using the platform ‘to incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government.’
The decision will likely put pressure on Twitter after Trump’s favorite social media platform suspended him for 12 hours on Wednesday evening.
Zuckerberg said the president used his Facebook page ‘to condone instead of condemn the actions of his supporters at the Capitol building’ which allowing him to freely post within the final 13 days of his term would pose too great a risk.
‘The shocking events of the last 24 hours clearly demonstrate that President Donald Trump intends to use his remaining time in office to undermine the peaceful and lawful transition of power to his elected successor, Joe Biden,’ Zuckerberg wrote.
