The German government on Wednesday agreed on the date of the next general election, September 26, 2021, to choose the successor to Chancellor Angela Merkel, said Government spokesman Martina Fietz.
The government “proposed to the federal president on Sunday, September 26, 2021, for the 20th Bundestag election (Lower House of Parliament),” Fietz told reporters.
President Frank-Walter Steinmeier still has to give his official approval.
