According to reports reaching Oyogist.com, Peru’s President, Manuel Merino has resigned from his office as president, five days after taking oath of office.
This comes after several citizens took to the street in their numbers to protests against him and the ousting of his popular predecessor.
“I want to let the whole country know that I’m resigning,” Merino said in a televised address, a day after a police crackdown on protesters left at least two people dead.
Meanwhile the Congress Party is expected to appoint a new president today at 6:00 pm. Former president Merino and his predecessor Martin Vizcarra, were impeached on corruption allegations last Monday.
