The European Union leaders have refused to place sanctions on Belarus over the Nation’s Aug. 9 presidential election that was neither free nor fair, according to a newsmen in the region.
The EU however put in place some measured to help punish the Belarusian Officials behind the illegal conduct of the election. These sanctions are due to take the form of asset freezes and travel bans against these defaulters.
Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenko is not on the sanctions list, EU chief Charles Michel revealed after meeting with European Union leaders, adding they will “follow the situation and developments.””We have unblocked sanctions on Belarus,” a senior EU official told reporters.
Annother EU diplomat said: “It’s a decent compromise,” but gave no further details.
