In an announcement made on Friday, the Oyo State Government has announced that the inauguration of managers for motor parks in the 33 Local Government Areas of the state would be made on Monday
Prof. Raphael Afonja, the Commissioner for Works and Transport for Oyo State made this public on Friday while speaking to members of the press in Ibadan.
According to Afonja, these park managers would shoulder the responsibility of collecting revenue from public transport operators in the state.
He disclosed that the park managers would represent the government and serve as the eyes of the government in the respective LGA’s under their authority.
He said they would remit the revenue collected on behalf of the state government into the purse of the government.
Afonja further clarified that each Local Government would have a park manager, a secretary and a treasurer and emphasized that they would all be inaugurated on Monday and commence their jobs immediately.
Speaking further, he said that the government is moving away from the practice of using transport unions to retrieve money from commercial transport workers.
Afonja disclosed that the government would rather have the appropriate people to handle revenue collection on behalf of the state.
According to Afonja, the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers will remain banned in Oyo State.
