Dasuki was detailed by the DSS for over four years. Sowore was detained for over 3 months. Sowore was released on the 5th of December 2019 but was rearrested again, in the premises of a court.
On the 24th of December 2019, the Federal government of Nigeria ordered the immediate release of both Dasuki who was in the detention of the Department of State Services (DSS) for crimes of corruption and Sowore for treason and cyberfraud.
As it turned out, persistent external pressure including the intervention of the US government pressured the government into releasing both of them. The US government through a written letter expressed their concern for the continuous detention of Mr Sowore, a resident of the United States.
