Liverpool risked being knocked off of the title if they don’t spend for the second successive season, It was the same set of players that won the UEFA champions league in 2018 that played the whole 2019/2020 season without any quality additions to the team except Takumi Minamino in January from RB Salzburg. Liverpool only signed young players with prospect, Harvey Elliot, Van der Berg and a young goalkeeper.
Paul Merson thinks liverpool could end up like Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino who didn’t sign any player for three consecutive seasons.
He said “”I think Liverpool need to buy, but it’s hard to know exactly where,” he told Sky Sports.
“Spurs had a similar situation under Pochettino a couple years ago.
“They had such a good XI, that anyone they bought wasn’t likely to play much.
“You can’t live like that, you have to keep competition and keep rotation.
“There’s a fast food chain that sell more burgers or chips than anyone else, but they spend more on advertising than anyone else. You’ve got to kick on.
“I found that with Spurs, they never really took a chance, and it has come back to bite them.”
