Billionaire founder of Microsoft, and global health philanthropist, Bill Gates once predicted the coronavirus pandemic and how it would wipe trillions of dollars off the global economy.
During a Ted Talk where the billionaire was discussing the global efforts to prevent wars and how powerful countries were investing trillions in their military, Bill Gates said an outbreak like what we’re witnessing today is what the world should instead prepare for.
Unfortunately, no one listened, and we’re here today. A CNBC report have placed the number of global coronavirus cases at over 200,000.
This message from Bill Gates now takes the world by shock as the entire world is gradually going on lockdown while the Covid-19 cases continue to rise.
“Today, the greatest risk of global catastrophe doesn’t look like a bomb, instead it looks like an influenza virus,” Gates said in the 2013 graphically illustrated Ted talk presentation.
“If anything kills over 10 million people in the next few decades, it’s most likely to be a highly infectious virus, rather than a war. Not measles, but microbes.”
“We’ve actually invested very little in systems stopping epidemic. We’re actually not ready for the next epidemic.”
“You can handle virus where people feel well enough while they’re infectious that they get on a plane (sic) or they go to a market. The source of the virus could be a natural epidemic like Ebola or it could be bioterrorism,” Gates said in the video.
