The head of the United Nations has announced his intention to visit Moscow in order to meet Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, Oyogist reports.
According to Antonio Guterres his visit might give him a chance to push for a negotiated end to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
Guterres has also requested a meeting in Kyiv with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian leader.
However it is unclear what clout his intervention will carry.
The UN Secretary General has been relatively outspoken, especially given his role, in his opposition to President Putin’s invasion, calling the war “unwinnable” and “indefensible”.
He said a month ago that there was “enough on the table” for an immediate ceasefire, but the fighting has still raged on.
