Oyogist has learned that the former president of South Korea, Park Geun-hye regained freedom earlier today, Friday 31st December 201 after spending nearly five years in prison.
Park Geun Hue was convicted of corruption, and other major charges.
She became the country’s first leader to be thrown out of office at age 69.
The Constitutional Court had upheld a parliamentary vote in 2017 to impeach her over a scandal that also led to the imprisonment of the chiefs of two conglomerates, Samsung and Lotte.
President Moon Jae-in granted a special pardon to Park last week, citing her deteriorating health and expressing hope to “overcome unfortunate past history and promote national unity”
