According to reports reaching Oyogist.com, the Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated plans to empower members of the National Youth Service Corps with the sum of 2 million naira each in order to venture into agriculture after one year of service.
This was disclosed to the public by the Executive Director, Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPR), Dr. Patricia Pessu, during a workshop seminar.
Pessu said the two corps members, had already Received theirs in Oyo and Abia states respectively, as they were picked from the last set of trainees at NSPRI.
The NSPRI boss added that “to put things into context, Nigeria’s unemployed youth of 13.9 million is more than the population of Rwanda and several other African countries.
“This youth population is also about 64 per cent of total unemployed Nigerians, suggesting that the most agile working class population in the country remains unemployed.” He concluded.
