The Nigerian Army on the chilly evening of Tuesday, the 20th of October, 2020, rained live bullets at unarmed young protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate, after the Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu declared a 24-hr curfew, OYOGist.com reports.
The Governor had declared a 24-hr curfew at 12PM on Tuesday, and given the citizens of the notoriously gridlock-ridden Lagos State barely 4hrs to get back home and observe a curfew that’ll start by 4PM.
The protesters that were caught at the Lekki Toll Plaza were greeted by heavily armed military men, and tanks, with automatic assault rifles fired at them.
Several innocent protesters have been reportedly killed while lots more were injured.
The government had earlier ordered the removal of CCTV monitors installed around the Toll Gate earlier in the day.
However, videos posted by those on the ground showed shocking moments rounds of bullets continued to rain on unarmed protesters at close range while chilling screams were heard.
Instagram live video recorded by DJ Switch showed moments people were falling to their deaths after getting hit by bullets.
According to multiple sources, at least, 7 persons have been killed.
