OYOGist.com has learned that Turkish President, Toyyip Erdogan have earlier slammed French President Macron over his policies toward France’s Islamists, saying that, “Macron needs mental treatment.” This is the third successive time of Turkish anger at Macron’s plan to “liberate Islam in France from foreign influences”, adding to a growing list of disputes between the presidents.
“If European countries want to preserve their positions in the politically and economically restructured global system, they must get rid of the disease of Islamophobia within their bodies. Otherwise, this disease will collapse all of Europe, from France to Germany.” Toyyip Erdogan tweeted.
Turkey’s Communications Director Fahrettin Altun also blasted Wilders for his hate speech. “Europe is an increasingly dangerous place for Muslims. The dog-whistle politics of offensive caricatures, accusations of separatism against Muslims and mosque raids isn’t about freedom of expression,” he said.
Turkey is a majority Muslim and secular country which is a part of NATO but not the European Union, where its membership bid has stalled for decades over a range of disputes. France’s President, Emmanuel Macron, made a statement that was heavily publicised by the media that ‘Islam is a religion that is in crisis today all over the world’. The timing of making such a high profile speech criticising Islam at a time when France faces numerous other crises is also questionable.
His speech predated the recent high-profile killing of a school-teacher. Samuel Paty, a teacher who was beheaded for showing students caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. The man armed with a knife beheaded a history teacher in front of his school in a suburb of Paris. The attacker was shot by police as they tried to arrest him a few streets away and later died of his injuries.
