An armed man who held six people hostage at a bank in France has been arrested after hours of negotiation, OYOGist.com reports.
The hostage held six people at BRED bank in Le Have France on Boulevard de Strasbourg.
The hostage situation started at around 4.45pm when the armed man broke into the bank and the victims were held till shortly after 10pm.
After much negotiation with the police, the armed man then let the hostages go one by one, with the French National RAID team on standby. A 52-year old man also escaped the situation.
A witness, and police union official told Reuters, the man was arrested shortly after the last hostage was let go.
In a tweet, the French Minister of Interior said;
“Le Havre: the hostage taker was arrested. The hostages are free and safe.”
“I thank the agents of the RAID for their composure and their professionalism, as well as all the security and rescue forces mobilized under the authority of the Prefect of Seine-Maritime.”
