Governor Wike who Spoke with journalists during an inspection of on-going shore protection work at the sandfilled 10 hectares dredged land located opposite the NLNG head office, was impressed by the level of work done there so far by the workers, oyogist learned.
According to governor Wike, it is believed that the said land used to be occupied by criminals where they perpetrate evil. Though the governor has not decided what is to become of the land yet, a final decision has not been taken on what activity to approve on the land. To keep the land busy and active, the governor said his administration have asked Julius Berger to occupy the land for infrastructure.
Governor Wike said he also went close to Isaac Boro Park flyover for the inspection of a dilapidated and abandoned six storey which is believed to be the former Riv-Insurance building. The said storey building has been abandoned for many years. Governor Wike promised that his administration will begin work soon on the abandoned property as it is economical to the state.
Furthermore, governor Wike also hinted about the on going work at the new GRA, said the government is equal to the task as they are making sure that the works are done as promised. The on going road construction at the new GRA is currently being handled by Julius Berger construction company in the state.
He concluded his interview with the journalists by saying that the achievements of the projects in the state is by the grace of God, and due to proper management of resources, despite the COVID-19 pandemic era as people wonder how his government are able to do all the works in the state.
Recall, the former governor of the state, who is the commissioner for transport in the country, talking about Hon. Rotimi Amaechi who mocked governor Wike’s administration by saying that his administration won’t see money to neither carryout works in the state nor pay workers. But we have all seen that the ex governor’s pronouncement didn’t come to pass, instead Rivers State is more blessed and richer than before, owning to the fact that the refund of 78.9 billion naira has been made to the state by federal government.
