The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned against drinking alcohol in excess as a way to keep coronavirus away, OYOGist.com authoritatively reports. The global health body said the act would do more harm than good.
“FACT: Drinking alcohol DOES NOT protect you against COVID-19 and can be dangerous!” A WHO advert warned.
“Frequent or excessive alcohol consumption can increase your risk of health problems”
Several Nigerians are of the false opinion that since alcohol kills the virus that spreads the illness, then drinking in ample quantity would protect them from getting infected.
As seen by this circular issued by the WHO, it’s very clear that this assumption is nothing but old wives’ tales.
The best way to stay safe from the coronavirus is to limit your exposure to it by staying in-doors for now and maintaining proper hygiene such as washing your hands with soap and water frequently or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
The WHO also warns against touching your face with your hands, especially if you’re uncertain of their cleanliness.
Recall, most states in Nigeria are directing all citizens to remain in-doors while the Federal Government announced a ban on all forms of movements in Lagos, Ogun and FCT starting from 11 PM on Monday, 30th of March, 2020.
