Earlier today, news made the rounds that Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chappel, was denied a US visa. The US embassy has denied this report.
The US Commission in Abuja, on its verified Twitter account publicized the rebuttal on Friday 31 January, calling the report Fake News.
Be mindful that several major local news outlets such as Vanguard, Pulse.ng and Legit.ng have all carried this unverified rumor as news.
“#FalseNews Alert! Be advised, the reports making the rounds about a visa being denied to Nigerian Bishop Oyedepo are false.” the US Embassy Abuja tweeted.
“If you have seen this manufactured item in the media, help defeat this #misinformation bu communicating to everyone that it is completely false.”
The notice also carried a screenshot of ThisDay’s report of the alleged fake news, with a bold red FALSE stamped on it.
