The hope for students looms as the meeting between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and Federal Government on Wednesday ended un-resolved following the disagreement over the payment platform to be used by the Federal Government of Nigeria to disburse the salary arrears and the earned allowance of University Lecturers, oyogist.com reports.

The Federal Government team as led by Chris Ngige the Minister of Labour and Employment reportedly told them that the salary arrears and the earned allowance of 30 billion will be paid through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information system platform pending when the Academic Staff Union of Universities University Transparency and Accountability solution will be adopted as the payment platform.

Other issues discussed were revitalization of the education sector where the government offered to pay N20 billion and also seek an alternative source for funding.

Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi insisted that the university lecturers will not enrol in Integrated payroll and Personnel Information system rather the UTAS should be used or the former platform in which their salaries where paid should be used instead. The Academic Staff Union of Universities chairman said he will go back and discuss with each state chapters so has to conclude.
