Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has confirmed that his deputy, Yakubu Garba, will remain his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, reaffirming their political partnership ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The announcement puts an end to speculation over the composition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in the state, with Governor Bago expressing confidence in his deputy’s loyalty, competence and contributions to the administration.
Speaking on the decision, the governor said continuity in leadership would help sustain the developmental projects and policy reforms initiated since the administration assumed office. He noted that the partnership between him and the deputy governor has been built on mutual trust and a shared commitment to improving governance in Niger State.
Bago also called on APC members and supporters to remain united as the party prepares for the 2027 elections. He stressed that internal cohesion would be critical to the party’s chances of retaining power in the state.
Party stakeholders welcomed the announcement, describing it as a move that promotes stability and eliminates uncertainty within the APC. They expressed optimism that the existing leadership team would continue to work together in advancing the state’s development agenda.
With the 2027 elections gradually approaching, the governor reiterated his administration’s focus on delivering good governance and completing ongoing infrastructure, agricultural and economic development projects while seeking continued public support.
