The Tarrant County jury deliberated on Colleps’s case for 3 hours and reached a decision after taking less than an hour to find her guilty of the crime.
Some of her students who took part in the orgy, and are between the ages of 18 and 19 years, were made to testify in court.
One of her students, who was now 20 at the time of testimony (2012) even tried to defend his teacher. He got to become aware of the act and engage in it after another student, then 19, told him about his visit to the teacher’s house and invited him and another two friends, all basketball players, over to her house.
They started exchanging text messages in May of 2011, and it then went on to a sexual relationship.
Colleps’s husband, Christopher Colleps, served in the army and was often away. He said he was mad at what his wife did, but would not divorce her because “till death do us part” means “till death do us part.”
He further said she didn’t deserve to be sent to jail and that sending her to jail is punishing him and her children for a crime they didn’t do.
