The United Kingdom is about to extend the Coronavirus lockdown that the government put in place to slow the growth of the COVID-19 infection in one of the worst-hit countries in Europe, OYOGist.com has learned.
According to advice by the country’s Health Secretary, extending the lockdown for more weeks is necessary. The announcement is expected to be made today, Thursday, the 16th of April, 2020.
The Country’s health advisors had warned that an extension was imminent given that the country is slowly reaching its peak, however, in a bid to prevent cases from resurging.
On the 23rd of March, 2020, the UK entered a nationwide lockdown that saw schools, beer houses and eateries close in order to curtail the spread of the COVID-19.
After 103,093 confirmed Coronavirus cases and 13,729 deaths, the UK may be on its way to witnessing its peak.
The Health Secretary Matt Hancock said “it is too early to make a change”.
“I understand those who are calling for an end to the lockdown or some kind of exit strategy to start now, but I think it’s just too early for that,” Hancock said.
The Government is expected to announce another three weeks extension to the lockdown that have halted the economy of the British in order to slow the spread of COVID-19.
