Reports reaching OYOGist.com confirms that the French President Emmanuel Macron has tested positive to COVID-19 after displaying some symptoms.

The news of the President contracting the virus reached the media on Thursday.

The leader of the European country is reported to have shown some symptoms similar to that of the deadly coronavirus before undergoing a test that came back positive.

In a statement released by the Elysée, the 42-year-old French Leader took a test after developing symptoms and is going to be self-isolating for seven days.

It is not yet clear how Macron contracted the virus or whom he came in contact with that could have transmitted the virus to him, but contact-tracing have begun to identify those he came into close contact with.

“The President of the Republic has been diagnosed positive for Covid-19 today,” the Elysée said on Thursday morning. The diagnosis was made following a “test performed at the onset of the first symptoms”, the statement added.

However, Elysée confirmed that Emmanuel Macron is still “in charge” of the government.

France has imposed an overnight curfew earlier this week to help curb a surging case of the virus.

The Prime Minister, Jean Castex, who had yesterday announced plans to start distributing vaccines, will also be self-isolating as he is one of the people to have come in contact with the President. 55-year-old Castex has not shown any symptoms, the report said.

Emmanuel Macron’s 67-years-old wife, Brigitte, has not been mentioned as a possible patient by the government.

OYOGist.con is not aware of disruption to plans made to distribute the vaccines as the Prime Minister goes into isolation.
