As the world gradually moves away from its reliance on fossil fuel, Nigeria, the biggest oil producer in Africa, is also catching on.

Through reliable news sources, OYOGist.com has gathered that giant Asian automaker, Hyundai has launched the first electric vehicle (EV) manufactured in Nigeria.

With Teslas and other EVs already a commonplace in the Western world, Africa, plagued with poorly constructed roads and terrible electricity supply, OYOGist.com reckons the continent would be the last on EV manufacturers mind.

Thus, the Hyundai Kona, set for release in 2021, is the first fully electric vehicle designed for the Nigerian market.

Its promoters have touted its efficiency and capability to “reach longer distances”, while also promoting its safety due to its low ground clearance.

The unveiling, which was done in Lagos State, had in presence the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who applauded the Stalion Group of Companies for bringing the EV to Nigeria.

The Hyundai Kona Electric car is assembled and distributed in Lagos, thereby creating job opportunities for Nigerian youths.
