The Nigeria Police Force has announced the deployment of officers to all polling units across Ekiti State ahead of the governorship election, assuring residents of adequate security before, during, and after the exercise.

According to the police, the operation is part of a comprehensive security strategy designed to ensure a peaceful, credible, and violence-free election.

The deployment includes conventional police personnel as well as specialised tactical units tasked with responding swiftly to any security threats that may arise during the polls.

The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State said officers have been strategically positioned across the state’s polling units, collation centres, and other critical locations to safeguard voters, election officials, and electoral materials.

Security agencies will also conduct regular patrols along major roads and identified flashpoints to prevent criminal activities.

The police warned political parties, candidates, and their supporters against engaging in vote-buying, intimidation, violence, or any actions capable of disrupting the electoral process. The command stressed that anyone found violating the Electoral Act or other applicable laws would be arrested and prosecuted.

Residents were encouraged to cooperate with security personnel and report suspicious movements or activities throughout the election period. The command also reminded citizens to comply with all lawful directives issued by election officials and security agencies.

In addition to police personnel, other security agencies are expected to collaborate in maintaining law and order throughout the election.

Authorities said the joint security arrangement is intended to strengthen public confidence and guarantee that eligible voters can exercise their civic rights without fear or intimidation.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to professionalism, neutrality, and respect for human rights, assuring the people of Ekiti that every necessary measure has been put in place to ensure the governorship election is conducted in a safe, peaceful, and transparent atmosphere.
