The Russian government has formally received Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and strategic ties between the two countries.

During a formal credential presentation ceremony in Moscow, Russian officials welcomed the Nigerian envoy and expressed optimism that the appointment would usher in a new phase of cooperation across key sectors, including trade, energy, education, agriculture, defence, and technology.

In his remarks, the Russian leadership described Nigeria as a strategic partner in Africa and underscored the importance of expanding collaboration based on mutual respect and shared interests. The country also pledged to deepen bilateral engagement through increased diplomatic dialogue, investment opportunities, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Nigerian ambassador conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing relations with Russia, noting that both nations have significant opportunities to boost economic cooperation and address common global challenges. He expressed readiness to work closely with Russian authorities to promote trade, attract investment, and strengthen partnerships in areas beneficial to both countries.

Diplomatic observers say the renewed commitment reflects the growing importance of Nigeria-Russia relations at a time when both countries are seeking to diversify economic partnerships and enhance cooperation in critical sectors.

Existing agreements covering education, energy, healthcare, and security are also expected to receive renewed attention.

The ceremony marks another milestone in the long-standing diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and Russia, with both governments expressing confidence that sustained engagement will translate into tangible benefits for their citizens and contribute to broader international cooperation.

The Russian government reiterated its willingness to work closely with the new ambassador to advance shared priorities, strengthen bilateral institutions, and foster greater collaboration on regional and global issues.
