For the upcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) before reopening, the Lagos State government has compulsory authorisation for all privately owned high schools in the state whose students are to attend, oyogist.com reports.
The Office of Education Quality Assurance of the Department, online through its website www.oeqalagos.com, reported compulsory approval of private schools and processing.
It was pointed out during a media briefing at the Secretariat of Alausa on Wednesday, by the Director General of the Office of Quality Assurance in Education Mrs Abiola Seriki-Ayeni.
According to her, the approval is important to prove that private schools, when they return to school on Monday to review and complete their final examination in order to provide safety standards and procedures, are on equal terms with government.
She said that the registration portal will be open on Wednesday night, and that any school which does not obtain clearance before reopening, including closure, will be prohibited.
Mrs. Seriki-Ayeni said her office’s monitoring team will go to schools to check if all safety standards are complied with.
She announced that her office recently sealed eight more private schools in the state, leaving 18 as many as private schools to date screened for arranging physical lessons for pupils that are not in compliance with government order. She said that the monitoring exercise would continue until usual returns and the reopening of all schools.
She said the government doesn’t want disorderly congregation of students as such portends great risk for the students and the society.
