At least 30 individuals are believed to have drowned after a canoe overturned in the Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

A local source reported that the accident took place on Sunday evening near Malamawar Yandutse village. The vessel was transporting approximately 40 people—principally women and children—when it capsized. Ongoing search and rescue efforts are underway, and local families have been requested to help identify recovered bodies for burial.

Muhammad Bala Sanusi, the Director of Planning for the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), confirmed the incident. He stated that the precise number of fatalities and survivors, as well as the cause of the accident, have not yet been determined because joint rescue efforts between agency officials and locals are still active.

Malam Habibu Dauda, the Chairman of the Emergency Management Committee, also verified the mishap and urged the public to stay calm and avoid sharing unconfirmed reports until official details are formally provided by authorities.
