The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Alhaji Bello Bodejo, the National President of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore group. The bail has been set at a staggering ₦2 billion following allegations of money laundering connected to a sum of $2.63 million.
In a ruling delivered on Monday, Justice Inyang Ekwo stated that the charges brought against the defendant are legally bailable, giving the court the discretionary authority to grant him temporary freedom while the case proceeds.
Strict Conditions for Release
To secure his release, the court has laid out highly stringent bail conditions that Bodejo must fulfill:
Two Sureties: He must present two sureties who can match the ₦2 billion bail bond.
Surety 1 Prerequisites: The first surety must be a resident of Abuja and present a verifiable three-year tax clearance certificate.
Surety 2 Prerequisites: The second surety must own landed property valued at no less than ₦2 billion within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Travel Restrictions: Bodejo is required to surrender his international passport to the court registrar and is strictly banned from traveling outside Nigeria without explicit judicial permission.
During the ruling, Justice Ekwo reiterated: “The offence with which the defendant was charged was bailable and the court has the discretionary power to exercise this in his favour.”
