The Oyo State Government has expressed its readiness to ensure the safe return of a Nigerian woman, Peace Busari, who was put up for sale on Facebook by a Lebanese, Wael Jerro.

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on the Diaspora, Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu, stated the state was liaising with the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, to facilitate Busari’s return.

Oyogist.com had reported that Jerro, who resides in Beirut, Lebanon, put up the passport of the victim on a Facebook group, ‘Buy and Sell in Lebanon.’

“Domestic worker from Nigeria for sale with new legal documents; she’s 30 years old, she’s very active and very clean. Price: $1,000,” Jerro wrote in Arabic.

Dabiri-Erewa, in an update on Twitter on Thursday, said Jerro had been arrested by the Lebanese government and would be prosecuted.

Sarumi-Aliyu, in a statement on Sunday, urged anybody that knew the whereabouts of the victim to contact her.

She said, “We want to let the world know that the Oyo State Government is interested in the safe return of Peace Ufuoma Busari. We will continue to liaise and collaborate with Abike Dabiri-Erewa and work with the Federal Government to ensure that our citizen is returned home safely.

“We also call on the citizens of Oyo State, who may know this lady, especially her family, to please contact the SSA on Diaspora to the Governor of Oyo State on 07025512891, so that we can work with the family to understand how the lady left the country.

“This government will not tolerate human trafficking of her citizens to foreign lands. We, however, need the full cooperation of those leaving the country so that we may be there to assist them if the need arises. We want to be able to guarantee the safety of our citizens leaving the country henceforth.”
