Burkina Faso Releases Detained Nigerian Air Force Personnel After Diplomatic Talks

by hassan December 18, 2025
written by hassan

Burkina Faso has released Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel who were detained after their military aircraft made a forced landing in the country, following high-level diplomatic engagement between both governments.

High-Level Delegation Resolves Standoff

The release followed a visit to Ouagadougou on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, by a Nigerian delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar. The delegation was dispatched by President Bola Tinubu to meet Burkina Faso’s leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

According to a statement issued by Alkasim Abdulkadir, spokesperson to the foreign affairs minister, discussions between both sides led to an amicable resolution of the incident.

Dialogue and Regional Cooperation

Abdulkadir said Tuggar conveyed a message of solidarity and fraternity from President Tinubu to Captain Traoré, stressing Nigeria’s commitment to good neighbourliness and regional stability.

Talks during the meeting focused on strengthening political, security and economic cooperation, deepening regional integration, and coordinating responses to shared security challenges across the Sahel and wider West African region.

Amicable Resolution of Aircraft Incident

“In the same spirit of constructive engagement, the two governments amicably resolved the issue concerning Nigerian Air Force pilots and crew,” Abdulkadir said, noting that the outcome reinforced mutual confidence and highlighted the effectiveness of diplomacy in resolving sensitive matters.

Captain Traoré welcomed the Nigerian delegation and expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for the gesture of goodwill, while reaffirming the long-standing ties between both countries.

Commitment to Peace and Development

Tuggar reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to work closely with Burkina Faso to promote peace, stability and economic development in the region.

Abdulkadir added that the Nigerian delegation also met with the released NAF personnel, who were described as being “in high spirits” following their release.

Youth, Technology and Africa’s Future Take Centre Stage at TD Africa’s 2025 Awards Night

African youths have been challenged to take deliberate action in redefining the continent’s global relevance,
with a call to reclaim Africa’s historical identity as the birthplace of civilization.
This powerful message was delivered by Mrs. Chioma Ekeh, Chief Executive Officer of
TD Africa, during the company’s 2025 “Celebrating You” Awards Night.

“The Baton Is Now in Your Hands”

Addressing a vibrant audience of young professionals alongside industry veterans, partners, and key
stakeholders at Eko Hotels & Suites, Lagos, Mrs. Ekeh urged African youths to embrace
responsibility and leadership.

“The baton is now in your hands,” she said. “You must ensure that Africa once again takes its rightful
place as the cradle of civilization.”

Her remarks set the tone for an evening focused on innovation, loyalty, and the role of technology in shaping
Africa’s economic and social transformation.

Common Sense as a Cornerstone for African Success

Chairman of Zinox Group, Mr. Leo Stan Ekeh, also delivered a thought-provoking
address, highlighting the importance of practical wisdom in business and leadership.

According to him, common sense remains the most underrated but critical asset for Africans operating within
increasingly complex economic environments. He described it as the foundation for integrity, discipline,
resilience, and long-term vision.

Nearly Three Decades of Technology Leadership

Founded in 1999, TD Africa has grown into one of West Africa’s leading ICT distribution companies,
with almost 30 years of experience connecting global technology brands to African markets.

Through strategic distribution, cloud solutions, and innovative digital services, the company has played a
central role in expanding access to technology and accelerating digital adoption across the continent.

Celebrating Partners and Shared Growth

Lady Chioma Chimere, Coordinating Managing Director of TD Africa, described the awards night as
a heartfelt tribute to partners whose consistency, trust, and excellence have supported the company’s mission
of making technology accessible to all Africans.

She emphasized that collaboration remains a driving force behind growth in the ICT sector, noting that no
meaningful progress is achieved in isolation.

Broad Media Reach and Cultural Highlights

KongaTV provided extensive coverage of the event, capturing key moments and broadcasting them
across multiple platforms. This ensured that the celebration of excellence, innovation, and partnership reached
audiences far beyond the venue.

The evening was further elevated by live performances from Styl Plus and Wande Coal,
spoken-word poetry by Chidalu, and comedy sets from Kenny Blaq.

Distinguished Guests and a Grand Finale

The gala attracted an array of influential figures from business, government, and industry, including
Mrs. Ibukun Awosika, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa,
Dr. Stella Okoli, Mr. Atedo Peterside, and Mr. Nnamdi Ezeigbo.

A standout moment of the night was the grand raffle draw, where one guest drove away in a brand-new SUV,
reflecting TD Africa’s culture of rewarding commitment and excellence.

Looking Ahead

As the 2025 “Celebrating You” Awards Night came to a close, TD Africa reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening
partnerships, upholding integrity, and driving sustainable technological advancement across Africa.

into gratitude, reflection, and heartfelt praise.

Activities begin at 5:00 PM and flow seamlessly through the night,
culminating in the celebration of the Holy Mass, a defining feature
that anchors the event firmly within Catholic worship tradition.

The Ultimate Detty December Guide for IJGBs

Welcome Home, Diasporians: Your Ultimate Guide to Detty December in Lagos

Beaches, concerts, food, parties, culture — and the survival tips you’ll thank yourself for later.

Detty December • Lagos • 2025

Welcome back, dear diasporians. Yes, we see you — stepping off the plane with fresh trainers,
a slightly updated accent, and instant complaints about the heat.

“How do you people survive this weather?” you ask dramatically, forgetting you escaped winter just 48 hours ago.
No judgement though. After all, we’re counting on the chocolates, perfumes, and foreign snacks in your suitcase.

Now that you’ve done the compulsory rounds — greeted relatives, answered Aunty Ngozi’s questions about marriage and
“plans,” and reassured everyone that life abroad is hard but God is faithful — it’s time to properly enter
Detty December.

Beach Vibes & Coastal Escapes

December in Lagos is beach season, and the city delivers.

  • Elegushi Beach and La Campagne Tropicana for lively day parties and sunset hangouts.
  • Landmark Beach Resort for water sports, live music, and photo-ready views.
  • Takwa Bay for calmer vibes; Lekki Leisure Lake for boat rides and jet skiing.

Tip: Pack sunscreen — yes, even with melanin.

The Concert Circuit

Detty December without concerts is simply incomplete.

  • Flytime Music Festival
  • Rhythm Unplugged
  • Pop-up shows and club concerts across Victoria Island and Lekki

Pro tip: Buy tickets early — Lagos shows sell out fast.

Food Tours & Culinary Adventures

You’ve been away from proper jollof for too long. It’s time to reconnect.

  • Start with the classics: suya, pounded yam, egusi, and small chops at parties.
  • Explore the new wave: rooftop restaurants, fusion spots, and stylish cafés.
  • Try NOK by Alara for brunch or dinner.

Extra: Book a food tour for markets + hidden gems.

The Party Scene (Let’s Be Honest)

This is why you came. December in Lagos means:

  • Pool parties, boat cruises, rooftop sessions
  • Club nights and house parties with surprisingly elite DJs

Hotspots like Quilox and DNA remain staples, while beach lounges and day parties
offer calmer options.

Planning tip: Follow promoters + platforms like Nairabox and Tush Magazine.
The best parties often have guest lists or limited capacity.

Cultural Experiences

  • Nike Art Gallery for stunning Nigerian artwork
  • Lekki Conservation Centre for nature and the famous canopy walkway
  • Terra Kulture for plays, exhibitions, and cultural showcases
  • Freedom Park for live music and art events
  • New Afrika Shrine for Fela’s legacy and unforgettable Thursday nights

Shopping & Markets

  • Balogun Market for fabrics and bargaining practice
  • Boutiques in Lekki and Victoria Island for contemporary African fashion
  • Alara Concept Store for luxury African designers

Stock up on essentials: shea butter, African black soap, spices, and those snacks you miss abroad.

Day Trips & Weekend Getaways

  • Ilashe Beach for overnight escapes
  • Badagry for history and coastal views
  • Abeokuta for Olumo Rock and traditional markets
  • Ado Awaye Mountains and the Suspended Lakes for breathtaking scenery

Reconnecting with Friends

Some of the best Detty December moments aren’t planned. Link up with old friends, organise lounge hangouts,
and let the spontaneous vibes do the rest.

Practical Survival Tips

  • Cash is king: Transfers work, but always keep naira.
  • Pace yourself: Detty December is a marathon.
  • Hydrate: Heat + parties demand water.
  • Transport plans: Uber, Bolt, or a trusted driver — don’t get stranded at 3am.
  • Power bank: A dead phone kills vibes.
  • Know your limits: Enjoy responsibly.

More Than a Season

Beyond the parties and Instagram posts, Detty December is about coming home — the chaos you complain about but missed,
the familiar sounds, and the reminder that Lagos always pulls you back.

So complain about the heat while secretly loving it. Switch accents mid-sentence. Take too many photos.
We’ll tease you, but we’re genuinely glad you’re here.

Now go and enjoy your Detty December. The city is ready. The parties are waiting. And yes  those chocolates better be premium.

World Cup ticket prices explained: Why fans face ‘extortionate’ cost

by Ayodeji Onibalusi December 18, 2025
written by Ayodeji Onibalusi

FIFA Faces Backlash as 2026 World Cup Final Tickets Top £3,000

FIFA is under growing criticism after unveiling ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup, with the cheapest seats for the final costing more than £3,000. Supporters’ groups have described the pricing as outrageous, warning it risks turning football’s biggest tournament into an event only the wealthy can attend.

Ticket Prices Surge by Nearly 500%

Prices revealed on Thursday show increases of almost 500% compared to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, already presents fans with heavy travel and accommodation costs.

The Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) has called on the English FA to challenge FIFA, branding the pricing “scandalous” and a “laughable insult” to ordinary supporters.

How Much Will Fans Pay?

For members of the England Supporters’ Travel Club, ticket prices range widely depending on the stage:

  • Group matches: £164 – £523
  • Round of 16: £220 – £575
  • Quarter-finals: £508 – £1,076
  • Semi-finals: £687 – £2,370
  • Final: £3,129 – £6,489

Scotland supporters face similar costs, with group-stage tickets starting at around £134, while final tickets match England’s price range.

General Sale Prices

FIFA has also opened a general lottery sales phase available to all fans until January. Prices include:

  • Group games: £104 – £2,046
  • Round of 32: £142 – £591
  • Round of 16: £164 – £733
  • Quarter-finals: £400 – £1,327
  • Semi-finals: £677 – £2,465
  • Final: £3,130 – £6,493

Tickets can also be resold on FIFA’s official platform, where the governing body will take a 30% commission.

Why Are Prices So High?

Football Supporters Europe (FSE) says pricing appears to depend on the “perceived attractiveness” of fixtures rather than a flat rate for group games.

While FIFA confirmed that dynamic pricing will be used in some phases, it insists prices will remain fixed during the main ballot window.

Critics also point out that the official 2026 World Cup bid had promised the cheapest tickets would range between £15 and £96.

FIFA’s Response

FIFA has declined to comment directly on the criticism but said it received five million ticket requests in the first 24 hours, highlighting what it called “soaring global demand”.

The organisation maintains that it is a non-profit body and reinvests revenue from ticket sales back into football development.

Supporters React

Fan groups across Europe have condemned the prices. The FSA accused FIFA President Gianni Infantino of exploiting supporter loyalty, while FSE described the pricing as a “monumental betrayal” of World Cup traditions.

Scottish supporters’ groups have urged their FA and FIFA officials to intervene, warning that many loyal fans will be priced out entirely.

Looking Ahead

With the World Cup scheduled for June–July 2026, pressure is mounting on FIFA to review its pricing strategy. For many fans, the fear remains that football’s biggest global celebration is drifting further away from the people who give it life.

UK-Based Nigerian Lawyer Recounts Surviving a Violent Kano Attack That Still Haunts Her

A Nigerian lawyer living in the United Kingdom has opened up about a harrowing experience from her childhood, revealing how she narrowly escaped death during a violent outbreak in Kano in 2004 — a trauma she says continues to shape her life today.

A Memory Frozen in Time

In an emotional social media post, Adaugo recounted witnessing a shocking act of violence that has never left her. She described seeing a woman who was simply frying akara attacked by a mob and killed, while her baby lay helplessly beside her.

According to her, the image of that day has remained permanently etched in her mind, resurfacing whenever conversations turn to insecurity and violence in Nigeria.

How She Escaped the Chaos

Adaugo said she survived the violence only because she was able to blend in. She spoke Hausa fluently and, in the confusion, appeared northern enough not to raise suspicion.

She revealed that her late best friend played a crucial role in saving her life by quickly telling people around that her name was “Hafsat”. That spontaneous lie, she said, was the difference between life and death.

A Childhood Shaped by Insecurity

Reflecting on the incident, Adaugo explained that the experience defined how she reacts today when people dismiss or minimise the insecurity in northern Nigeria.

She said she grew up witnessing hunger, poverty and rising unrest in communities that were once known for peace and coexistence, long before the violence became nationally recognised.

Violence That Followed Her Into Adulthood

Years later, during her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in Jos, Adaugo encountered further violence. She said that period completely shattered whatever hope she still had that peace would return quickly.

Those cumulative experiences, she explained, reinforced her belief that Nigeria’s security crisis has deep roots that cannot be ignored or explained away.

Fear for Nigeria’s Future

Adaugo expressed deep concern about the country’s current direction, describing Nigeria as a nation that feels like it is sinking.

She criticised the growing tendency of some influential voices to downplay the scale of killings and suffering across the country, warning that silence and denial from those who should demand accountability only worsen the crisis.

Singer Post Malone and ex-fiancee settle custody battle

Post Malone and Ex-Fiancée Jamie Park Reach Private Custody Agreement

Post Malone and his former fiancée, Hee Sung “Jamie” Park, have brought their custody dispute to an end after reaching a confidential settlement concerning their three-year-old daughter. According to court records cited by TMZ, the agreement covers custody arrangements, visitation schedules and child support, with additional provisions believed to include healthcare responsibilities.

While the settlement was finalised last week, the full terms remain sealed, keeping the finer details out of the public eye.

Background to the Custody Dispute

The legal battle gained momentum earlier this year following the couple’s split in late 2024. Park filed documents in April requesting that the case be handled in Los Angeles, a jurisdiction known for higher child support guidelines.

At the time, Post Malone had already initiated legal proceedings in Utah, where both parties were reportedly sharing custody under an informal arrangement.

Relocation and Legal Strategy

Sources familiar with the case say Park relocated to California at the beginning of 2025, a move that influenced her request to shift the case to Los Angeles courts. The differing filings in two states became a key point of contention before both sides agreed to settle.

Post Malone’s Personal Life

During the period of the custody negotiations, the rapper was briefly linked to Christy Lee after the two were seen together in Rome earlier this year. That relationship, however, ended before summer.

Looking Ahead

With the legal dispute now resolved, both Post Malone and Park appear to be focused on creating a more stable and cooperative environment for their daughter. The settlement marks a significant step toward closure after months of tension and uncertainty.

“After Loss Came Life”: Nigerian Lawyer Welcomes First Child After Years of Heartbreak

Joy, gratitude and deep emotion filled the home of Nigerian lawyer and evangelist Princess Jeremiah as she welcomed her first child on November 17, 2025, after enduring the pain of losing three previous pregnancies.

Married to a pastor, Princess described the birth of her son as nothing short of a miracle, calling him living proof of perseverance, faith and mercy.

A Long, Exhausting Journey to Motherhood

Sharing her testimony on Facebook, the new mother revealed that her pregnancy went beyond the expected due date and was marked by weeks of intense labour without progress. Despite prolonged contractions, she never dilated beyond 2cm.

Doctors eventually advised an emergency Caesarean section, a decision she said she accepted after a brief prayer.

A Critical Discovery in the Operating Room

According to Princess, scans failed to detect a major complication during pregnancy. However, during surgery, doctors discovered that her baby’s umbilical cord was tightly wrapped around his neck, cutting off blood flow.

The baby, weighing over 4 kilograms, was already growing weak and had passed meconium in the womb, a sign of distress. Quick medical intervention ultimately saved his life.

Faith Tested, Faith Rewarded

In her emotional post, Princess recounted a troubling spiritual experience during the pregnancy, saying she received a vision suggesting both she and her unborn child would not survive. She later discovered that the vision mirrored the physical reality doctors uncovered.

Despite the fear and physical pain, she held tightly to her faith, declaring that praise carried her through the darkest moments.

“Judah Is the Evidence of My Praise”

Celebrating her son’s safe arrival, Princess wrote that hearing her baby cry after birth confirmed her prayers had been answered.

She named him Judah, calling him “the evidence of my praise,” and expressed gratitude for divine mercy after years of loss.

A Message to Other Mothers

While acknowledging the intense pain of surgery and recovery, Princess used her testimony to encourage other women, especially mothers who deliver via C-section.

She emphasised that giving birth through surgery does not diminish womanhood or faith, praising mothers who endure the process as strong and heroic.

Though still recovering physically, Princess says her joy is complete. She closed her message by praying for others waiting for similar breakthroughs, asking God to grant them double joy and answered prayers.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally written to the Senate, requesting accelerated confirmation of new chief executives to fill the vacant positions at both agencies.

According to the Presidency, the nominations are aimed at ensuring continuity and strengthening regulatory oversight across Nigeria’s petroleum sector.

New Nominee for NUPRC

Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan has been nominated as the new CEO of the NUPRC. An Economics graduate of the University of Benin, Eyesan brings nearly 33 years of experience from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) and its subsidiaries.

She retired in 2024 as Executive Vice President, Upstream, having previously served as Group General Manager, Corporate Planning and Strategy between 2019 and 2023.

President Tinubu has nominated Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as CEO of the NMDPRA. Born in 1957 in Gombe State, Mohammed earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University in 1981.

He was also announced on Wednesday as an independent non-executive director at Seplat Energy.

He has chaired the boards of the West African Gas Pipeline Company, Nigeria LNG subsidiaries, and NNPC Retail, and previously served as Group Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer, Gas & Power.

His portfolio includes leadership roles in landmark initiatives such as the Gas Masterplan, Gas Network Code, and policy contributions to the Petroleum Industry Act.

Major Projects Under His Watch

Engineer Mohammed played a key role in the delivery of strategic national infrastructure projects, including the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline Expansion, the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline, and the Nigeria LNG Train projects.

With Senate confirmation now pending, the proposed leadership changes signal a new phase in the implementation of Nigeria’s petroleum reforms under the PIA, as the Tinubu administration seeks to reposition the sector for efficiency, transparency and growth.
