Oyo State Seniors Receive N50 Million Support Through Renewed Hope Initiative

Empowering Elderly Citizens: A Nationwide Social Investment

On Tuesday, elderly residents of Oyo State were beneficiaries of the third phase of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS), a significant social welfare program championed by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. This intervention, amounting to N50 million, aims to enhance the quality of life and wellbeing of senior citizens within the state.

The event took place at the Local Government Training School, Secretariat in Ibadan, under the umbrella of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme. Themed “Finding Joy in Old Age,” the scheme is part of a synchronized national rollout occurring simultaneously across all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and includes veterans from the Defence and Police forces.

Financial and Holistic Support for Senior Citizens

Representing Senator Tinubu at the Oyo State ceremony was Mrs. Ajibike Lawal, spouse of the Deputy Governor. The scheme provided direct financial aid to 250 elderly individuals aged 65 and above, each receiving N200,000. This distribution aligns with the national framework, which allocates N1.9 billion across the country to support senior citizens.

Senator Tinubu emphasized that the initiative is more than monetary assistance. It is a comprehensive effort to ensure that elderly Nigerians feel cherished and respected, especially during festive periods. “Our senior citizens have contributed immensely to nation-building and deserve dignity, care, and recognition,” she remarked.

Beyond cash transfers, beneficiaries also gained access to free medical screenings and essential health services, reinforcing the program’s commitment to promoting overall wellness among the elderly population.

Government Commitment to Senior Welfare

The First Lady highlighted that the Renewed Hope Initiative complements the Federal Government’s broader social protection strategies under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. “This program encourages our elders to maintain good health and enjoy meaningful time with their families,” she added.

Oyo State’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, praised the initiative as a testament to compassionate governance. She acknowledged the additional healthcare support provided by the First Lady of Oyo State, Engr. Tamunominini Makinde, FNSE, who has integrated a robust medical care component funded by her office.

“Her Excellency’s dedication ensures that our elderly receive vital health consultations, screenings, and medications, underscoring her commitment to the wellbeing of Oyo’s senior citizens,” Balogun stated. She expressed hope that these efforts would lead to improved health outcomes and reinforce society’s duty to honor and care for its elderly population.

Beneficiaries Express Appreciation and Hope

Mr. Chris Wike, speaking on behalf of the recipients, conveyed heartfelt thanks to the First Lady and all stakeholders involved. “This support has brought renewed hope and happiness to us. Being remembered and assisted at this stage of life is profoundly meaningful,” he said.

Wike also acknowledged the Oyo State Government and program organizers for the supplementary healthcare services, noting that free medical consultations and access to medications would greatly enhance the quality of life for elderly residents.

Looking Ahead: Sustaining Support for Nigeria’s Elderly

As Nigeria’s population ages, initiatives like RHIESS are critical in addressing the unique challenges faced by senior citizens. According to recent data, Nigeria’s elderly population is projected to increase by over 50% in the next decade, underscoring the importance of sustained social investment programs that promote dignity, health, and financial security for older adults.

The Renewed Hope Initiative’s holistic approach serves as a model for integrating financial aid with healthcare and social support, ensuring that Nigeria’s seniors can enjoy their golden years with comfort and respect.

Ajimobi’s Roundtable: Tinubu Says Tax Reforms Will Bring Relief As Experts Call for Electoral Reforms

by Ayodeji Onibalusi December 19, 2025
written by Ayodeji Onibalusi

President Tinubu Highlights Tax Reforms as Catalyst for Economic Stability and Growth

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emphasized that the tax reforms implemented under his administration are strategically crafted to alleviate the financial pressures on Nigerian citizens while steering the nation’s economy toward sustainable development. Speaking at the 8th Annual Senator Abiola Ajimobi Roundtable, co-hosted with the Institute for Peace and Strategic Studies at the University of Ibadan, the President underscored the positive impact of these fiscal policies.

Represented by Dr. Zacchaeus Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), President Tinubu noted that the recent economic initiatives are already producing tangible benefits. He highlighted that several companies, which had previously reported losses, are now experiencing profitability, signaling a turnaround in the business environment.

Tax Policy Reforms: A Pathway to Economic Relief and Stability

The President reassured Nigerians that the newly enacted tax laws are designed to provide substantial economic relief in the upcoming fiscal year. He stressed that these reforms are essential to dismantle the heavy financial burdens that have long hindered economic progress and to stabilize the national economy. Tinubu encouraged citizens to embrace these changes with confidence, emphasizing that the policies are crafted with the nation’s long-term prosperity in mind.

Remembering Senator Abiola Ajimobi: A Legacy of Leadership and Development

In paying homage to the late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, former Governor of Oyo State, President Tinubu described him as a distinguished son of Ibadan whose leadership brought peace, development, and structural governance to the state. Ajimobi’s tenure was marked by breaking the so-called “second-term jinx” in Oyo State, setting a precedent for political stability.

Tinubu attributed much of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s enduring influence in Oyo State to Ajimobi’s people-centered leadership approach. He called on APC leaders within the state to uphold unity as the highest tribute to Ajimobi’s memory, reinforcing that cohesion is vital for continued progress.

Foundation’s Role and New Ambassador’s Vision

Dr. Chief (Mrs) Florence Ajimobi, President of the Senator Abiola Ajimobi Foundation (SAAF), expressed gratitude for President Tinubu’s unwavering support of the annual roundtable. She also lauded the innovative leadership of FIRS Chairman Dr. Zacchaeus Adedeji and thanked the dignitaries who attended the event.

Recently nominated as Nigeria’s Ambassador, Dr. Ajimobi pledged to fulfill her diplomatic duties with boldness, integrity, and expertise. She highlighted the roundtable’s theme, which focused on strengthening democracy by addressing the critical roles of the electorate and political parties.

Insights on Democracy and Electoral Reforms

Rt Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House of Representatives, praised Senator Ajimobi’s governance philosophy, which emphasized structure, discipline, and clear direction. He warned that politics devoid of order leads to chaos, a principle that remains crucial for Nigeria’s democratic evolution.

The keynote address, delivered by Professor Ibrahim Gambari-a seasoned diplomat and former Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari-tackled the theme “Pathways to Electoral Credibility: Reforming Political Parties, Re-engaging Citizens and Restoring Trust in Democracy in Nigeria.” Gambari drew lessons from Nigeria’s electoral history, cautioning against election manipulation and one-party dominance, which historically culminate in instability or military takeovers. He referenced the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as examples of such patterns.

Addressing Electoral Challenges and Regional Stability

Professor Gambari identified voter apathy and disenchantment with democracy as significant obstacles to credible elections. He advocated for reforms aimed at lowering political campaign costs, empowering civil society organizations, and strengthening electoral oversight bodies. Gambari also condemned the ongoing disenfranchisement of Nigerians living abroad and highlighted the rising trend of military coups in West Africa, urging enhanced diplomatic efforts and regional cooperation to tackle these issues.

With the 2027 general elections approaching rapidly, Gambari stressed the urgency of implementing these reforms, reminding stakeholders that democracy is a responsibility requiring active participation and vigilance.

Tributes and Calls for Grassroots Impact

Chief Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Chairman of the event, reflected on his longstanding relationship with the late Senator Ajimobi, praising his warmth and dedication to public service. He expressed confidence in Ambassador Florence Ajimobi’s ability to excel in her new role. Osoba reaffirmed that civilian governance remains Nigeria’s best path forward and urged policymakers to prioritize initiatives that deliver tangible benefits to ordinary citizens, particularly in light of subsidy removals. He highlighted elite failure as a persistent challenge undermining democratic progress.

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, also Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, described the roundtable as a fitting tribute to Ajimobi’s legacy and commended Ambassador Ajimobi’s appointment. He emphasized the responsibility of Nigeria’s elite to safeguard democracy and noted the country’s role as a catalyst for change since 2023.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, represented by Deputy Governor Chief Bayo Lawal, congratulated Florence Ajimobi on her ambassadorial nomination. He affirmed that the governance principles established by the late Governor Ajimobi continue to influence Oyo State’s administration, underscoring his enduring legacy of effective leadership.

Event Highlights and Notable Attendees

The event featured the presentation of an award to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a ceremonial cake cutting. Established in 2018, the Senator Abiola Ajimobi Roundtable convenes annually on December 16 to commemorate the late governor’s birthday and foster intellectual discourse on democratic governance and policy development.

Distinguished guests included Ogun State First Lady Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun; former Deputy Governors Moses Alake Adeyemo, Engr. Remi Olaniyan, and Iyiola Oladokun; Minister of Power Chief Adebayo Adelabu; Senators Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, Yinus Akintunde, and Teslim Folarin; Hon. Remi Oseni; Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe; Chief Biodun Sobanjo (OON); Chief Akin Oke; University of Ibadan Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Juwon Adetiba; traditional rulers such as the Soun of Ogbomosho Oba Ghandi Olaoye and Oba Biodun Kola-Daisi; among other prominent stakeholders.

Honoring Dr. Debo Akande: A Pioneer in Oyo State’s Agribusiness Revolution

By Akindele Ibrahim Olore

Oyo State today recognizes the remarkable contributions of Dr. Debo Akande, whose visionary leadership has significantly transformed the agricultural and economic sectors of the region. As the Director-General of the Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), Dr. Akande celebrates his birthday amid the tangible successes of his initiatives, which have positively impacted farms, markets, and communities throughout the state.

Bridging Global Expertise with Local Agricultural Advancement

Dr. Akande’s career is distinguished by his unique combination of international experience and dedication to local development. Stationed at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) headquarters in Nigeria, he serves as CEO of IITA Business Incubation Limited, spearheading critical programs such as Mechanization and Zero Hunger. These roles have positioned him as a leading innovator in Africa’s food systems. Concurrently, his advisory role to Governor Seyi Makinde on Agribusiness and International Development Cooperation, alongside his pioneering leadership at OYSADA, has earned him a reputation as a trusted and effective public servant.

Transforming Agriculture into a Modern Economic Powerhouse

Under Governor Makinde’s administration, Dr. Akande has been instrumental in shifting Oyo State’s agricultural sector from traditional subsistence farming to a dynamic, technology-driven agribusiness ecosystem. His strategic vision emphasizes job creation, investment attraction, and inclusive economic growth, positioning agriculture as a cornerstone of the state’s diversified economy.

The Agribusiness Transformation Centre: A Model of Innovation and Investment

One of Dr. Akande’s flagship achievements is the establishment of the Agribusiness Transformation Centre in Fasola. This hub exemplifies how strategic leadership can elevate agriculture beyond mere production to a sustainable engine of prosperity. The centre has successfully attracted a broad spectrum of investors, both local and international, engaged in various facets of agribusiness including crop cultivation, livestock farming, agro-processing, and mechanization.

Key investors at Fasola include FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria PLC, which has acquired approximately 200 hectares for dairy farming and processing. Milkin Barn Agro Services Limited focuses on grain and dairy production, while IITA GoSeed collaborates on developing improved crop varieties such as cassava, cowpea, maize, and soybeans. Other notable participants include E4 Farms and BrownHill Farms, specializing in crop and dairy production and greenhouse farming respectively. Sigma Farms and Grandir Agribusiness Company Limited are enhancing the cashew value chain, while Rita Global Resources expands cassava processing. Technological advancements are driven by Agridrive and supported by the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), promoting mechanization across the state. Troli International Limited contributes by producing value-added agro-products like Pepperetti sauce.

The Eruwa Agribusiness Hub: A Vision for Large-Scale Agricultural Development

Another landmark project under Dr. Akande’s stewardship is the expansive 3,250-hectare Eruwa Agribusiness Hub. Designed as a comprehensive centre for production, processing, and value-chain integration, this initiative underscores Oyo State’s commitment to leveraging agriculture as a major economic driver. The hub fosters a sustainable agribusiness ecosystem that connects farmers, processors, markets, and technology providers.

Ijaiye Agribusiness Industrial Hub: A New Era for Agro-Industrialization

On August 2, 2025, the groundbreaking of the Oyo State Agribusiness Industrial Hub at Ijaiye marked a pivotal moment in the state’s agricultural transformation. Led by Governor Seyi Makinde and attended by dignitaries including Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima (represented by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari) and African Development Bank President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, this project aims to convert traditional farm settlements into modern agro-industrial centres.

The Ijaiye hub is designed to stimulate employment, attract private sector investment, and enhance food security. Emphasizing processing, value addition, and efficient market access, it is set to strengthen the agricultural economy within the Ibadan zone and beyond, reinforcing Oyo State’s vision of sustainable agribusiness-led growth.

Global Partnerships and Youth Empowerment: Expanding Oyo’s Agribusiness Footprint

Dr. Akande has also been pivotal in integrating Oyo State into the global agribusiness network. Through strategic collaborations with international entities such as Semaris Rungis, efforts are underway to develop a world-class wholesale food market, positioning Oyo as a regional hub for food trade and security.

Central to his mission is empowering the youth. Initiatives like the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP) have equipped thousands of young people with skills in modern, technology-driven agriculture, fostering a new generation of agripreneurs. The NG-CARES program has further supported young entrepreneurs in scaling their businesses, generating employment and stimulating economic activity across urban and rural areas. Dr. Akande’s advocacy for digital literacy and vocational training continues to broaden opportunities for youth engagement in agribusiness.

Policy Leadership and Economic Impact

Beyond programmatic achievements, Dr. Akande plays a crucial role in shaping Oyo State’s economic policies. His involvement in designing and implementing initiatives such as the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones and the Local Production and Revenue Enhancement Strategy (LPRES) has fostered fiscal discipline, transparency, and improved revenue generation. By attracting sustainable investments in agribusiness, urban development, and industrial agriculture, he has helped position Oyo State as a benchmark for sub-national development in Nigeria.

Championing Food Security through Innovation and Technology

At the core of Dr. Akande’s work is a commitment to modernizing food production. By promoting scientific research, innovation, and agricultural technology, he has advanced safer, more efficient, and sustainable farming practices. This approach reduces dependence on outdated methods and enhances productivity throughout the agricultural value chain.

Celebrating a Legacy of Visionary Leadership

As Dr. Debo Akande marks another year of life, his journey stands as a powerful example of how visionary leadership, technical expertise, and dedicated public service can transform communities and economies. His unwavering belief in agriculture’s potential to drive socio-economic development continues to shape a future where Oyo State is food-secure, prosperous, inclusive, and competitive on a global scale. Retaining talents like Dr. Akande in governance is vital for realizing the state’s ambition of rapid industrialization.

On this special occasion, Oyo State not only celebrates Dr. Akande’s birthday but also honors the enduring legacy of innovation, purpose, and service he embodies.

Revolutionizing Security Through Consistency: The Oyo State Model

On a hot afternoon in Ibadan, a seemingly routine scene unfolds that quietly marks a transformative shift in Nigeria’s governance. Government employees leave their offices without the usual stress or urgency. There are no desperate calls to informal lenders, no mental juggling of unpaid bills, and no last-minute worries about delayed salaries. For seven consecutive years, public sector workers in Oyo State have received their paychecks on or before the 25th of each month-reliably and without fanfare. “When your basic needs are met consistently,” a mid-level civil servant remarked, adjusting his glasses, “you start valuing rules and become a custodian of this newfound order.”

From Economic Security to Social Stability

In a country where poverty often ignites unrest and security is frequently associated with gunfire or emergency alerts, Oyo State’s steady salary payments represent a quiet revolution. Unlike other regions where armored vehicles and sirens dominate the security narrative, here, financial predictability has become the most potent weapon against disorder. The state’s leadership argues that this dependable economic foundation has curbed fraud, extortion, and gang violence more effectively than any military presence. The skyline, dotted with cranes and new developments, reflects a state ready to compete on a global scale.

Security as a Constructed System

This evolution signals a fundamental rethinking of security-not as a reactive response but as a proactive framework. Sustainable peace is not achieved through sporadic displays of force but through building institutions that make chaos irrational and violence unsustainable. The principle is simple yet often ignored: security begins with stable governance structures before it manifests in operational success. Where governance is predictable, fear diminishes, and violence finds no fertile ground. Oyo State exemplifies how true security is the product of foresight, discipline, and sound economic policies.

Learning from Global Best Practices

Oyo’s strategy draws inspiration from international successes. It mirrors Singapore’s urban design, where strategic lighting and transit planning reduce crime; Germany’s postwar social market economy, which linked welfare to public safety; Japan’s civil service system, emphasizing job security to ensure administrative continuity; and Rwanda’s post-conflict reforms that transformed trauma into disciplined governance. These examples highlight a universal truth: lasting security is rooted in robust institutions rather than episodic force.

Data-Driven Evidence of Success

Statistics reinforce this narrative. NigeriaWatch’s 2023 data shows Oyo State with approximately 1.3 violent deaths per 100,000 inhabitants-significantly below the national average. This achievement is no coincidence but the result of deliberate, consistent governance choices. While other states scramble to respond to crises, Oyo anticipates challenges and stabilizes its environment through structured policies and disciplined administration.

The Fiscal Predictability Framework: Economic Stability as a Security Foundation

Central to Oyo’s model is the Fiscal Predictability Framework. Security begins not with riot gear but with economic certainty. For seven years, the state has ensured timely payment of public sector salaries-not as a populist gesture but as a strategic imperative. A workforce confident in its income avoids panic; a society free from economic stress is less susceptible to unrest. This financial reliability diminishes petty corruption and undercuts desperation-driven crime. Automated salary disbursements have thus become an invisible yet powerful peacekeeping tool.

Responsive Crisis Management Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic

The robustness of this approach was tested during the COVID-19 pandemic. Unlike many Nigerian states that imposed strict lockdowns modeled after Western countries with strong social safety nets, Oyo adopted a pragmatic, context-sensitive strategy. Through a dedicated Crisis Management Centre, it implemented a partial lockdown that acknowledged the realities of a predominantly daily-wage economy. This approach prevented a health crisis from morphing into a hunger crisis, avoiding the unrest and looting seen elsewhere. The key takeaway: security policies must align with the socio-economic realities of the population.

Restoring Control: Reforming the Transport Sector

Beyond economic stability, Oyo addressed the erosion of governmental authority over violence, particularly within the transport sector. The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), once a labor union, had evolved into a coercive parallel power. Instead of direct confrontation, the government integrated and restructured this influence through the Park Management System (PMS). This initiative replaced violent gang conflicts with a regulated, accountable framework, restoring order through institutional innovation rather than mass arrests.

Community-Centered Security: The Amotekun Corps Initiative

Security was further enhanced by establishing the Amotekun Corps, a data-driven response to escalating armed banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism. The Ministry of Police Affairs’ 2022 report recorded 122 armed banditry incidents, 49 kidnappings, and 3 terrorism-related attacks in Oyo, highlighting the limitations of centralized policing. Amotekun was created as a professional, insured, intelligence-integrated force-not a symbolic militia but a stabilizing presence bridging community vigilance and formal law enforcement. Its success underscores the power of localized security institutions in addressing national instability.

Infrastructure as a Strategic Security Asset

Oyo’s security blueprint also leverages the physical environment. The “Light Up Oyo” campaign and strategic road expansions tackle darkness and isolation-key vulnerabilities exploited by criminals. By illuminating public spaces and connecting rural areas like Oke Ogun to urban centers, the state eliminates “ungoverned spaces” where criminal networks thrive. Improved roads reduce emergency response times, enhance surveillance, and extend state presence into previously neglected regions. In this way, infrastructure becomes a frontline defense against crime.

Adapting to Shifting Crime Patterns: From Violence to Economic Offenses

The model acknowledges that crime evolves. As violent crimes decline, economic and cybercrimes rise. Local data from Apete, Ibadan, revealed an increase in reported crimes from 171 in 2022 to 281 in 2023, largely driven by cyber fraud and property offenses. This shift is not a failure but a displacement of criminal activity. A mature security system anticipates such trends and adjusts its strategies accordingly.

Turning Tragedy into Reform: Insights from the Bodija Explosion

The Bodija explosion exposed hidden vulnerabilities, including illegal mining and regulatory lapses. The government responded with thorough investigations and tightened oversight, transforming tragedy into an opportunity for institutional strengthening. This capacity to convert crises into reforms exemplifies advanced governance.

Rule of Law: The Cornerstone of Sustainable Security

Ultimately, the legitimacy of any security framework hinges on unwavering adherence to the rule of law. Selective enforcement breeds resentment, while impartiality builds trust. Whether prosecuting those responsible for the Christmas stampede or sanctioning influential traffic offenders, Oyo has sent a clear message: impunity will no longer be tolerated. Recent intelligence-led recoveries of kidnapping victims demonstrate that effective security is measured by tangible outcomes, not spectacle.

Scaling Oyo’s Success: A National Security Blueprint

The Oyo experience offers a replicable template for Nigeria. Security excellence is not about personalities or slogans but about intentional, disciplined design. Insecurity is local, rooted in homes, neighborhoods, and local governments. State leaders must embrace their roles as architects of order. Engineer Seyi Makinde, overseeing security across 33 local governments-the second-largest number in Nigeria-has maintained peace across 351 wards for six years. His quiet leadership sends a powerful message: “Let the 33 guide the 774.”

Policy Recommendations for Nationwide Adoption

To replicate this model nationally, the Federal Government should institutionalize the Fiscal Predictability Framework as a governance standard across all states. Hunger undermines security; ensuring timely payment of civil service salaries and pensions must be a national security priority. Treating economic anxiety as a threat vector equal to armed banditry lays a foundation for stability that discourages radicalization and corruption.

Secondly, constitutional constraints limiting state policing should be revisited-not to expand political power but to enhance localized intelligence capabilities. Amotekun’s success proves that decentralized, professional forces integrated with communities can secure areas beyond federal reach. A multi-tiered policing system, supported by rigorous data analysis and local autonomy, is essential for effective security.

Finally, infrastructure development should be leveraged as a core security strategy. The “Light Up” philosophy should become national policy, ensuring no public space remains dark enough to harbor criminal activity. Connecting rural corridors to urban centers through robust road networks removes geographic advantages exploited by criminals. The path forward is clear: shift funding from reactive security measures to proactive infrastructure that builds order. If Oyo’s 33 local governments can achieve this, the remaining 774 have no excuse.

This declaration came during a strategic caucus meeting of the 10th Assembly held in Ibadan, where lawmakers assessed the current political climate, including the recent surge in defections nationwide, and deliberated on plans for the 2027 general elections.

Speaker Ogundoyin Calls for Unwavering Dedication Amid Political Turbulence

Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, Speaker of the House, who chaired the session, emphasized the necessity for resilience and unity among PDP members. He stated, “Now is not the moment to hesitate or lose resolve. We must stand united as proud representatives of the PDP in Oyo State and across Nigeria. Despite the challenges and defections shaking the political landscape, our foundation must remain solid. Our loyalty to the PDP should be absolute and unwavering.”

He further urged the caucus to disregard distractions and temporary setbacks, highlighting that political fluctuations are cyclical, but the party’s core values and dedication must remain intact. “Our presence here is a result of the trust the people of Oyo State have placed in us under the PDP’s banner, and it is our duty to honor that trust,” Ogundoyin added.

Endorsing Governor Makinde’s Leadership and Vision

Reaffirming their confidence in Governor Makinde’s administration, the Speaker encouraged his colleagues to continue supporting the Governor’s progressive agenda. “Governor Makinde’s leadership has been instrumental in driving development and positioning Oyo State as a model of effective governance in Nigeria. His vision and determination inspire us all, and we must back him wholeheartedly as he spearheads efforts to secure PDP’s success in the 2027 elections,” Ogundoyin remarked.

Turning Challenges into Opportunities for a Stronger PDP

Addressing the internal challenges facing the party, the Speaker expressed optimism that these difficulties would ultimately fortify the PDP. “Political parties often face crises, but it is our response that defines us. I am confident that the PDP will emerge more united, focused, and ready to claim victory in 2027,” he said.

Lawmakers Pledge Grassroots Mobilization and Legislative Support

During the caucus, PDP legislators committed themselves to being at the forefront of revitalizing the party’s influence. They resolved to intensify efforts in grassroots mobilization, provide robust legislative backing, and foster internal cohesion to enhance the PDP’s standing within Oyo State and beyond.

In a collective vote of confidence, the lawmakers expressed unwavering support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership, underscoring their dedication to advancing the party’s objectives as the 2027 elections approach.

Cristiano Ronaldo has sent fans into a frenzy after Fast & Furious star Tyrese Gibson shared a viral photo appearing to show the football legend alongside the iconic action franchise cast — including Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, fueling speculation that Ronaldo may be joining the upcoming Fast & Furious sequel.

Gibson’s post on X (formerly Twitter) featured a smiling Ronaldo with the familiar faces of the franchise, captioned: “Welcome to the FAMILY! @Cristiano the GLOBAL DANCE JUST WENT INTO NEW HEIGHTS!!!!!!” — igniting widespread debate online about whether the soccer superstar has officially signed on to appear in the next film.

The image has set the internet alight, with fans celebrating the possibility of Ronaldo’s movie debut amid anticipation for Fast & Furious’ latest installment, tentatively expected as Fast X: Part 2 or Fast & Furious 11.

What We Know So Far

Vin Diesel has previously hinted at Ronaldo’s involvement, confirming that a role has been written specifically for him in the franchise — comments that lend credibility to the buzz surrounding Gibson’s post. Diesel said: “Everyone asked, would he be in the Fast mythology… I gotta tell you he is a real one. We wrote a role for him…” on social media.

Despite the excitement, the authenticity of the image has also been questioned, with some viewers suggesting it might be AI-generated due to its seamless composition and star-studded lineup.

Reactions have flooded social media, with fans imagining what Ronaldo’s inclusion could mean, from cameo appearances to action sequences involving high-octane races and globe-spanning missions. Some have jokingly suggested rival cameos (even imagining Lionel Messi as an on-screen foil), underscoring how deeply Fast & Furious has embedded itself in popular culture.

Whether the image represents an official casting or simply playful social media hype, one thing is clear: the idea of Cristiano Ronaldo in Fast & Furious has captured the imagination of millions around the world.
