Congressman Riley M. Moore from West Virginia, who spearheaded the U.S. delegation, shared insights from their fact-finding mission on X (formerly Twitter). The group met with influential local leaders such as Catholic Bishops Wilfred Anagbe and Stephen Dugu, the traditional ruler Tor Tiv, and numerous internally displaced persons (IDPs) who recounted harrowing experiences of violence.

Moore described hearing “heartbreaking accounts,” including that of a mother who lost five children in attacks. He characterized the violence as a “brutal genocidal campaign” allegedly orchestrated by extremist elements within Fulani groups. “The scenes I witnessed are unlike anything I have ever seen and will stay with me forever,” he remarked.

In light of these findings, Congressman Moore is drafting a detailed report for the U.S. President and senior officials. This report will recommend collaborative measures with Nigerian authorities to protect vulnerable communities and dismantle the terrorist networks fueling the unrest.
