A Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Carol Afegbai is facing arrest for refusing to seem before the Edo State Judicial Panel found out to research incidents of police brutality.
The panel has ordered that Afegbai be arrested after she was reportedly absent from a hearing over her alleged complicity within the murder of a 500 level student of the University of Benin, Ibrahim Momodu, The Sun reported.
The retired CSP was the then Divisional policeman (DPO) of Ogida when she was accused of getting a hand within the killing of the late Momodu.
AB Thomas, a member of the panel on Tuesday, December 1, said Afegbai should have come to the hearing if she had nothing to cover from the members of the general public.
He said:
“If she wasn’t arrested within the supreme court , if she wasn’t arrested within the court of Appeal, it’s because she wasn’t a celebration it had been state versus the person who pulled the trigger but before us here, she may be a member to the party and if we just plow ahead to conclude my Lord, it’ll seem she is above the law.”
According to Vanguard, it was reported that, following his argument, the chairman of the panel, Justice Ada Ehigiamusoe (rtd) ordered the immediate arrest of Carol Afegbai.
