Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers believed to be linked to a series of robbery incidents in Ughelli and surrounding communities, as security agencies intensify efforts to combat crime in the state.

According to the command, the arrests were carried out by officers attached to the Anti-Vice Squad in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group following credible intelligence received on June 14. One of the suspects reportedly led investigators to a hideout in Ughelli, where another alleged gang member, identified as 26-year-old Cosmos Erueseke, was apprehended.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue to uncover the full extent of their alleged criminal activities.

In a separate operation on the same day, officers deployed on stop-and-search duty along the Ozoro/Oleh Expressway intercepted a Toyota Sienna vehicle with registration number FST 242 YK. During a routine search, the driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush.

Although efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect proved unsuccessful, a thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be illicit drugs. The recovered items included Codeine, Tramadol, Swinol, Man G, and Vega, according to police authorities.

Edafe stated that the exhibits had been taken into custody and that investigations had commenced to identify and arrest the escaped suspect, as well as determine the source and intended destination of the seized substances.

The latest arrests underscore the Delta State Police Command’s ongoing campaign against armed robbery and drug-related crimes, with authorities urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information that could aid law enforcement efforts across the state.
