A couple of weeks ago, the English Football Association announced that the top two wimen’s division, the Women’s Super League and the Championship had been cancelled with immediate effect.
However, there was no decision as to what would be done concerning who would be crowned champions, as well as relegation. But now, a new champion of Womens’ football in England has been crowned. Chelsea Women have officially been crowned champions of the Women’s Super League 2019/20 season.
The FA decided to determine the final standings on the table on a points-per-game basis. Manchester City Women were top of the table with 40 points from 16 games, one point ahead of Chelsea women, who had 39 points. But the Blues had played 15 games, one less than their City counterparts, giving them a superior points-per-game average.

Chelsea Women’s manager Emma Hayes made a statement: “Football pales into insignificance at a time like this, but it also has the capacity to bring joy and happiness to fans and communities everywhere. For my players and staff, winning the league is something to be proud of and I will tell them that when I speak to them.”
“A lot of blood, sweat and tears from every player, at every club, has gone in to this season and it is important we recognize that and celebrate the fact we have ended a highly-competitive season as champions.”
