History has just been made in the Nigerian legal community as Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has emerged as the newly elected president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

Following a competitive election cycle, she secures her place as only the second female president in the history of the esteemed association.

The election, which was conducted entirely through a 24-hour electronic voting process, began on Saturday morning and concluded on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

Out of three candidates vying for the top position, Badejo-Okusanya was the sole female contender. She secured a decisive victory by capturing 12,317 votes, representing 47.18 percent of the total 26,106 ballots cast by lawyers across the country.

By defeating her two male opponents, Badejo-Okusanya’s landmark triumph marks a monumental milestone for female representation within Nigeria’s legal profession. Legal practitioners nationwide are now looking forward to the new era of leadership her administration will bring to the bar.
