Athlete, Oghenebrume has been sentenced to 27 months in a U.S. federal prison, a penalty that will be immediately followed by his deportation back to Nigeria.
The incident that derailed Oghenebrume’s life took place on the night of February 7, 2025, at his apartment complex in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
According to federal court records, Oghenebrume was inside his apartment with another young woman when his ex-girlfriend—the mother of his infant child—arrived with their baby. An argument quickly broke out between the former couple outside the apartment.
As the tension escalated, and with the infant present, Oghenebrume fired a gunshot.
The chaos didn’t stop there. After briefly heading back inside, the confrontation reignited when the ex-girlfriend opened his door, seeing him with the other woman. The argument spilled back out into the open, and as the mother fled for safety, Oghenebrume fired his weapon multiple times. Investigators later found several bullet strikes riddled across the apartment complex walls.
During the frantic altercation, Oghenebrume smashed his ex-girlfriend’s phone and took the baby. Fortunately, the other woman in the apartment stepped in to help, successfully retrieving the child from him and handing the baby back to the mother.
