A grieving sister, Hannatu Bello, has shared a painful account of how her younger brother, Abdullahi Bello, lost his life after being brutally attacked by a mob in Plateau State.
The incident, which has sparked widespread condemnation, occurred around the Rantiya community in the Jos South Local Government Area.
According to Hannatu, the tragic ordeal began on a Sunday after Abdullahi left the house.
The family’s worst fears were realized when she received a phone call from an Investigating Police Officer (IPO) using her brother’s phone number, informing her that Abdullahi had been found unconscious on the ground after a severe beating.
Hannatu immediately rushed to the hospital in Dadin Kowa alongside their mother, where they found Abdullahi unresponsive.
The police officers on the case explained that they were out on patrol around 3:00 a.m. on Monday when local vigilantes alerted them to the situation. According to the reports, a group of individuals had set upon Abdullahi, brutally beating and attacking him under the false assumption that he was Fulani.
Hannatu clarified that while her brother possessed physical features that might make someone mistake him for Fulani, he was not.
