Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has spoken out against the growing trend of online ridicule directed at celebrities, urging social media users to show more empathy and compassion.

The actor expressed concern over the harsh criticism and mockery that public figures often face online, noting that celebrities are human beings who also experience pain, emotional struggles and personal challenges. He stressed that fame should not make individuals targets of relentless abuse and ridicule.

Okanlawon said social media has increasingly become a space where people feel entitled to insult and demean public figures without considering the emotional and psychological impact of their actions. He called on internet users to be more mindful of their words and to treat celebrities with the same kindness and respect they would expect for themselves.

According to the actor, promoting empathy and understanding online would help create a healthier digital environment and reduce the culture of bullying and harassment that has become prevalent on social media platforms.

His remarks have sparked conversations among fans and followers, with many agreeing that public figures deserve compassion and respect despite living much of their lives in the public eye. Others noted that while celebrities may face scrutiny because of their status, criticism should remain constructive and not descend into personal attacks or mockery.
