Nigerian Senate moves against illegal arms trade in the country

According to report reaching oyogist.com, the Nigerian Senate has reportedly considered a bill to tackle the illicit importation and sale of fire arms in the country.

The bill which was allegedly sponsored by the Nigerian Senate Leader, Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi, passed the second reading at the upper house of Assembly.

Senator Yahaya stated that the bill when passed, would put an end to the Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons in the country.

According to Sen. Yahaya, “Small Arms and Light Weapons are readily available, easy to use and have been the primary or sole tool of violence in almost all conflicts in every part of our society.”

Senator Yahaya also stated that the bill would help put an end to the issue of banditry, terrorism and other social vices in the country

The bill was however referred by the Senate President to the Senate Committee on Defence for further legislative work.
