Abuja Concert: Police Arrests Naira Marley Over Covid-19 Lockdown Breach

According to report reaching OYOGist.com, the men of the Nigerian Police Force has arrested the Nigerian music star artiste, Azeez Fashola, who is popularly known by his stage name as Naira Marley, for the contravention of guidelines set by the Federal Government meant to reduce the spread of the dreaded coronavirus in Nigeria.

It is gathered that the popular music star was arrested in Lagos today Thursday, August 6th, 2020, and currently in the custody of the security agency.

It is on record that the popular artiste, Naira Marley, was airlifted from Lagos to Abuja by a charter and aircraft maintenance firm, Executive Jet Services, for his scheduled concert in Abuja, when a ban was in place against flight operations in the country.

A development which the Federal Government had said that it contravened it’s directives and safety measures in existence as a way to mitigate the spread of the deadly virus in Nigeria.

It will be recalled that following Naira Marley’s default, the Federal Capital Territory Ministerial Task Force on COVID-19 Restrictions had sealed Jabi Lake Mall where the event was held for violating government’s directive on ban of public gathering but was later reopened.

It is also on record that on April 6th, 2020, the popular artiste was picked up by the police over violation of lockdown rules in Lagos State for attending a house party organized by actress, Funke Akindele popular called Jennifer and her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello.

He was later released upon tendering a written apology to the Lagos State Government and signing an undertaking which he pledged to henceforth comply with the government’s stay-at-home and social distancing directives as well as agreeing to go into a 14 day self isolation haven attended a crowded birthday party.

The renewed arrest on Thursday August 6th, 2020, may not be out of connection with his existing crime of violating government orders.
