Nigerian born Coach, Eddy Ikemefula Newton wins Turkish cup

OYOGist.com has learned that Trabzonspor head coach Eddy Ikemefula Newton who is of Nigerian descent, has allegedly won the Turkish cup. Eddy Newton is the current caretaker manager of Turkish club Trabzonspor, he was appointed after Trabzonspor ended ties with former manager Unal Karaman.

Eddy Newton who represented England in his playing days, has been an assistant manager for Chelsea football club, before moving to Trabzonspor.

Trabzonspor defeated Alanyaspor 2-1 on the eve of Wednesday to end there 10 year trophy less campaign.

The last time Trabzonspor won a trophy was in 2010 when they won the Turkish Cup and the Turkish Super Cup.

A goal in each half from Abdulkadir Omur and Alexander Sorloth in the 25th and 90th minutes respectively, was all Trabzonspor’s needed to clinch there ninth Turkish Cup title after their first came in the 1976/1977 season.

They finished runners-up in the Turkish Super Lig after Istanbul Basaksehir were crowned champions.

Anthony Nwakeme a Nigerian striker is also a player for Trabzonspor, former super Eagles captain Mikel Obi also played for Trabzonspor this season , but his contract was terminated after he said that he wasn’t in support of the league continuing in the midst of the Corona virus.
