In what took a lot of people by surprise, the Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Chapter, Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo said that he has never tasted any alcoholic drink nor smoked in his life.
MC Oluomo said this during a chat with BBC Yoruba. Recounting the story of his life, he revealed that he ran away from home at age 13 and began following buses as a conductor as a means of fending for himself.
He said his mother was a street sweeper and was not happy with his decision to be a bus conductor at such a teenage age. He said when his mother planned to take him to a welfare home, he did not return home.
MC Oluomo, who lost his father at the age of 7 said life was not a bed of roses while growing up as there were times he had to sleep outside or in a bus but he was never lured into stealing or even smoking cigarettes.
He said members of the NURTW are not supposed to be participating in politics. He also encouraged drivers and bus conductors not to lose hope as God can still lift them up beyond their imaginations.
It would be noted that MC Oluomo is a right-hand man of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his emergence as the NURTW Chairman is not unconnected with that.
